Our New Year is off to a great start. There’s nothing like having guests to motivate Joe and me to do some home care. Nah, Christmas is still up, but we had to put a second bed for the second guest—Tanya from Ukraine. Randi, our houseguest for most of January, arrives on Thursday. Her room is easy because it’s the designated guest room that has a Queen-sized bed. But the second bedroom is now a full gym and the third is the office Joe and I share. Luckily, the house has a loft/craft room which was sadly neglected until now. Joe ordered a twin bed that can be dismantled and stored, and today we put the room together.
Assembling the guest room also motivated us to ditch those items we didn’t use the previous year. I’m of the obnoxious sort that labels everything. Two years ago, we obtained Ikea storage drawers to store linens, blankets, Christmas, and other items. We have one in the gym, another in the guest room, and the largest one in the loft. Surprisingly, there are a lot of items we didn’t use last year. They’re going. We already have a box ready to take to Foster Care Services (ICM) which gives out the items at no charge to families.
I will be placing myself on a schedule to continue with writing. I want to do one to two Substack entries a week, finalize the chapter in my DNA book, and, the fun part, start researching for my second Cavazos novel, the interval beginning in the mid-1800s to the early 20th century. Like The Perils of Beginnings, it will be a creative nonfiction based on real characters. I will have to find a way to disguise the characters since they will be based on family members.
I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on the book’s debut. Many have told me that they’ve bought a copy. I’m thrilled, but the work doesn’t stop at launching. As a self-publisher, I’m also my self-promoter. Again, the reason for putting myself on a schedule.
If you follow me on Substack, let me know your thoughts on the book or write an Amazon review.
Thank you for reading.
